MOSCOW, Oct 18 (PRIME) -- Russian President Vladimir Putin has approved spending 15 billion rubles on construction of two vessels for seismic exploration on the Arctic shelf, RBC daily reported on Tuesday.
The initiative was suggested by Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Khloponin, who in a July letter to Putin said that Russia covers its demand for 2D seismic exploration fully, but is capable of providing only 20% of necessary 3D seismic exploration, and the tear and wear of the existing scientific fleet exceeds 80%.
According to the daily’s data, Russia covered only 70,000 square meters with 3D seismic exploration in 2005–2015, or 1.2% of the country’s continental shelf.
